Michael Kifer is an associate professor of Computer Science at SUNY Stony Brook. He received his PhD, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. His professional interests include database systems, logic programming, and knowledge representation.

Scott A. Smolka is a professor of Computer Science at SUNY Stony Brook. He received his Ph.D. from Brown University. His research interests include semantics of concurrency, design of distributed algorithm and languages, and visual environments for concurrent systems.

Okay for some theory stuff but the actual SQL stuff ...

Okay for some theory stuff but the actual SQL stuff should have been a much larger deal in this book, for students in a Databases class. Get it if you absolutely have to for a class but otherwise just learn your SQL online.

Use only if desperate to find an SQL book for Access

I know the pickings are slim for finding a book to learn SQL using Access, but PLEASE can't someone who knows how to teach and cares about getting their information correct write one? First off, this book has many errors including some statements that work OPPOSITE to the statements. Ex: On page 105 the description for "Nested LEFT and RIGHT OUTER JOINs" reads "In Access, A LEFT JOIN or a RIGHT JOIN can be nested inside an INNER JOIN, but an INNER JOIN cannot be nested inside a LEFT JOIN or a RIGHT JOIN." NO. NO. NO. It works in the opposite way.
The tables to be used in the book tutorials often bear no relationship at all to the fields or to the data and some of the naming produces run errors-- creating a frustrating experience for a student. This was obviously no labor of love for the authors, but a slapdash method to pump out a book. It is a crime that there was no quality assurance on this book. That alone would have caught the worst of it. For shame to all associated with its publication.
I generously gave it two stars just because it is probably better than nothing, but not much better. Again, here's a call to all of you SQL trainers out there: your market is wide open.

Loved this story!!

This is the third book in the Trident Series and while it is a stand-alone novel it should be read in order as it does give away things that occurred in previous books.

Ben "Boomer" Michaelson is not the settling down type. When he was in high school he thought he found the girl of his dreams but her and her family died in a car crash and part of Boomer has never gotten over her. When he receives a request to have a meeting with Kate Zimmerman at Trident he is baffled to who that is.

Kate Zimmerman, aka Katerina Maier, never knew the trouble her dad was in when their car was forced off the road and her life changed forever. When she knows someone is after her she goes to the only person she believes can help her - Ben Michaelson.

Ben vows to try and figure out who is after Kat and why. His heart still belongs to her but he has changed so much since she has been gone and is not sure if Kat will like the new him. When the Russians strike will Kat be able to forgive herself for the events or will she push everyone away and run?

This has been my favorite story so far! I love the back story on these two and how they are going about trying to figure out why the Russians are after Kat. I also loved that the story was really realistic with the sex and not just jumping into the BDSM.

I really liked Boomer in the previous books and this one definitely shows us how much he truly cares about Kat and the strong relationship he has with his team and with his parents. Although he is strong we definitely get to see a vulnerable side, especially towards the end.

Kat is so strong with everything she has been through and I can't imagine what she had to go through only to discover that it wasn't over. She is vulnerable and I can understand her reluctance to get involved with many people with not really knowing who to trust. I completely get her actions at the end and I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing.

Carter is my hero and I really need the author to write a book on him!! His character has been growing on me since the very first book and now I believe he could be one of my favorites. I love his attitude, swagger and knack for being at the right place at the right time. I can't wait to read about the woman who is able to tame him down!

This series is very well developed and I love the continuation of the story so that we are never leaving a character behind and are really getting to know them! I can't wait to read the next one!

OMG Must read!

O.M.G!! It's the first thought that comes to my mind for typing this review. How does Samantha Cole do it?! What an amazing author. I started reading this series and with this being book #3, I just can't believe Ms. Cole can still have me hooked! From the beginning to the end there's always something going on. Never a dull moment. This book has a great story-line with details, sexy men, romance and steamy-hot sex scenes. Samantha Cole also writes with emotion. I smile , make a sad face, and sometimes I just want to jump right into my kindle and have fun too ;)

Waiting for Him Trident Security book 3 is a smoking hot read. The characters from the previous books are in this one as well which I like how the story continues. This is about Ben and Kat. The story starts with Ben's world falling apart when his best friend and the woman he loved died in a car accident. Well 12 years went by and Kat needed the help of the Trident men. When Ben sees Kat standing there, he faints. So Ben and his teammates help he out. Ben realizes that he loves Kat with all his heart and he would do anything including stop his lifestyle, but he saw her reading Kristen's book and she had some interest in the BDSM lifestyle. So one day he showed her The Convent. Ben calls Kat- Kitten. Then the story continues and the plot gets better so your going to have to one-click this book to find out as I don't want to spoil it.

"Kitten, there is nothing about you I would change. Your eyes are so expressive, sometimes I can't stop looking at them, especially when you laugh."

"I can't help it, Kitten. You say the funniest things. You've always been able to make me laugh." She pinched his side and he grabbed her writs to stop her. "Okay, Okay. I'm not laughing at you. But why bowling?" Her head went back to rest on his strong upper body."Because we always had the best times when we were bowling. You,me, and Alex."

"She's my life. I don't care if I have to get on my knees and beg, or tie her a** up and kidnap her, but damn it, I'm not letting her get away this time. I love her and I've got to get her back."

"Kitten, I love you with all my heart. You're my sunshine, my moonlight, my past, and my future. My life was beautiful with you in it the first time, and it's beautiful again, now that you're back in my arms. I had a dream last night about Alex. I know it sounds weird, but he gave me his blessing and made me promise to take care of you forever. Whether real or imagined, it's a promise I intend to keep. Marry me, sweetheart. Grow old with me and make the rest of my life beautiful too."

After having the fantastic opportunity to read book 1 in the Trident Security series, I've jumped at and loved the following 2. Each book is a stand alone and introduces us to a different member or this extremely hot group of men, affectionately known as the sexy six pack. So this time it is Benjamin, Ben, Boomer, Benny Michaelson story. I have to admit after following Devon and Ian, Ben had some serious shoes to fill and I have to say, he exceeded my expectations gaining him and Waiting for Him a very well deserved 5 stars.

Ben had his world shattered 12 years ago, when his best friend Alex, and his family were all killed in a horrible car accident. Not only did he lose his best friend but Alex's little sister, whom had stolen Ben's heart only hours earlier. Katerina Maier had all but given herself to Ben, but with his impending Armed forces training, he asks her to wait for him. 32 hours later everything changed.

Now Ben is a team member of Trident Security, and former Navy Seal he uses his skills for all sorts of security jobs. Along with Trident, he is a Dom at "The Covenant" a very private club in the confines of the compound. While on the job he is set up for a meeting with a Kate Zimmerman, thinking she is a past sexual conquest, Ian sits in on his meeting with the strange woman to find out what she really wants from Ben. Ben never imagined walking into the room and seeing a ghost.... It litterally knocks him out.

Katerina (Kat) Maier, was removed from civilization when her mother and brother were killed in a car accident. Her father and herself were saved and placed into witness protection. She lost her real love that day, but she had never forgotten Benny, her Benny. Now 12 yrs on, her father has passed away for real this time, and she is in danger once again. Not knowing who to turn to, she goes to the one man she can trust, Benjamin Michaelson. Never expecting Ben's response to her returning from the dead, she certainly didn't expect his anger towards her. It is only a matter of time before their old feelings return, but Ben has changed so much in 12 years, and not into the man that Kat is expecting.

Knowing Ben will have to let Kat go again after her life is no longer in danger, he uses all of his power to stay away from her, but she is so sexy now, and it is only a matter of time before they give into their attraction, but not before Ben explains who he really is now. Very quickly a quickie is not going to cut it, real feelings return for both Ben and Kat and they declare their love for each other.

But this will only work if Ben and his Trident team along with "holy crap hotness" Carter & any hi flying FBI team members they must find who wants Kat dead and why. This begins the start of a jigsaw puzzle of Kat's 2 lives, and her father's greed or stupidity, jury is still out on that one. Discovering it is a drug cartel tracking her down to get what her father stole from them, when it is clear, they will stop at nothing to get what they want and removing Kat permanently is not a problem either. Ben and his team must take everything on to save this woman, Ben's woman.

This is where I really enjoy Samantha Cole's writing, she has the power of extremely hot male leads, headstrong female's and some hot damn melt your panties sex.. but she has the talent of creating a who dunnit with just enough mystery to keep you page turning.

While contending with returning to her former life and showing up at family's homes as the ghost they never expected, can Ben and the Trident team, save her and remove the threat permanently and can Ben and Kat return to lovers and get that happy ever after that was taken away so abruptly years before?

This was beyond all my expectations, I'm now a huge Samantha Cole and Trident Security fan... I'm excited to see Devon and Kristen and Ian and Angie come back into the story along with the other Trident boys, and one that only deserves his own introduction - Master Carter, this man is hot as hell... he'll set you on fire, his presence during the story is so extremely sizzling. But not out doing Ben, and his dominant nature the whole team and setup is awesome. Loved it!

Great book for teenage girls

This is a great book for teenage girls. It stresses the good qualities of waiting to have sex. It tells how even boys that were interviewed admitted to really using the girls who give "it" up to too easily. But those same boys don't want to have the girls that they think are too easy for girlfriends. Since the boys know that if a girl gives in for them, she probably has done it in the past with others. I think we all want our daughters to know this, but somehow they don't believe it when it comes from us. Thanks

Who is the book for?

I wrote this book for anyone making anything. And vague as I admit that to be, I believe it to be most useful framed that way.�

Because in my opinion, the same advice could be given to someone organizing a bake sale as someone organizing a global cross-channel campaign. I also think the same high-level process and consideration set could apply to a student making their first website as a major corporation redesigning their digital ecosystem.

We have spent the last thousand years inventing ever-stronger ways to transport messages from one point to another. But along the way, we haven't spent as much time considering how our messages will be interpreted and how that might impact the way people understand and use the information that our messages contain.�

We spend most of the time talking about the practical and predictable parts of our world. The steps we will take, the deliverables we will produce, the thing we are making, even the value we will be creating by doing so, the organization of teams and projects to get us there -- but we spend much less time (if any at all) talking about the perceived meaning of choices we make, the impact language has on our communication's effectiveness, or playing with structures that would best serve our intent before we start to layer on the details of design and execution. I wanted to write a book that taught those lessons.

About the Author
Abby Covert specializes in delivering a highly collaborative information architecture process and teaching those that she works with along the way. Abby speaks and writes under the pseudonym Abby the IA, focusing on sharing information architecture content with those working within the design and technology communities. She teaches information architecture at The School of Visual Arts, Parsons: the New School and General Assembly NYC. Abby prides herself on being an active organizer and mentor within the IA community. She currently serves as the president of the Information Architecture Institute and as an advisor for the Information Architecture Summit. She holds credit for inventing World Information Architecture Day, a free annual conference held simultaneously in dozens of locations across the globe. Now in its fourth year, World IA Day has been held in 50+ cites. Thirty eight more locations have been added for 2015. Information Architecture Literacy

If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I'd say this book teaches "information architecture literacy". I'm not even sure the idea of such a thing existed before, but you only have to read this book to realize how it's critically needed... by everyone.

The ALA defines information literacy as the ability to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information". Obviously, these skills are still needed today, and not just by librarians and information professionals. But "use" in the old context seemed simpler: finding and applying the information directly. Now we're inhabiting places made of information, struggling with and trying to understand, create, and share complex messes of information. None of this is easy, it's disorienting and confusing, and many of us lack a good approach to figure this stuff out. That's where information architecture comes in. And Abby's book does an excellent job of explaining the core concepts in a way that is accessible and useful for anyone.

This isn't a textbook, or some "thought leader's" magical process. You won't learn how to build a website or an app. It's a frank and interesting look at how to begin to figure stuff out. (Where "stuff" is the complex interaction of people, information, and technology.)

Finally, a true IA primer

There is nothing wrong with Lou Rosenfeld's or Christina Wodtke's pre-eminent books on information architecture. But they are thick, dense reads you just can't hand to someone asking you, "So what IS information architecture anyway?" But now comes Abby Covert's short book that explains, plainly, why IA is important in unadorned text. I think we may look on this book in coming years the way we look on Don't Make Me Think: A book that can explain to the layperson why we in the UX/IA world do what we do. It's short, plain, clear, and smart.

a gruesome serial killer in the near future

I was totally absorbed by this novel, which I bought at an English book store in France, and was shocked to find the author unanavailable in the U.S. The story is set in Murmansk, Russia, in the near future, and is the most origional and satisfying serial killer, detective novels I've read since The Red Dragon .
